Tram network extension

Tram network extension

In order to further promote public transport in our city and make it attractive for even more people, we are constantly working on expanding our tram network. In addition to the new lines that we are planning as part of the Chemnitz model together with Verkehrsverbund Mittelsachsen and the city of Chemnitz, we have analysed other potential tram routes.

Tram network extension Zeisigwald

The planned route begins on Straße der Nationen, where the existing infrastructure currently ends in the main station loop. It then runs to Wilhelm-Külz-Platz, turns onto August-Bebel-Straße and finally runs via Thomas-Mann-Platz to Zeisigwaldstraße.

Almost the entire route is planned as a railway track flush with the road. At the same time, modern facilities for pedestrians and cyclists will be created and accessibility for all public transport and pedestrians along the route will be ensured.

Tram network extension Reichenbrandt

The planned route runs along the existing line to Schönau and turns onto Zwickauer Straße at Guerickestraße. There it runs to the Reichenbrand church.

The construction of the tram line will simultaneously create modern pedestrian and cycle traffic facilities and significantly upgrade the entire Zwickauer Straße between the ‘Guerickestraße/Jaenickestraße’ junction and ‘Reichenbrand Church’ in terms of urban development.
