Tram museum

Do you want to experience the history of Chemnitz streetcars up close? Then a visit to the Chemnitz Tram Museum is an absolute must.

Tram history up close

The first depot was needed for the first horse-drawn streetcars that ran in Chemnitz from 1880. The first buildings on the Kappl site between Feldschlößchenweg and Bachgasse included wooden carriage sheds, rooms for the smithy, carpentry and paint shop, stables for the horses with farriery and feed rooms, as well as a service building with coachman's room and an apartment.

Most of the old buildings of this former first streetcar depot are still preserved today. The entire site is currently being converted. The Garagen-Campus is being created here as a central cultural and creative location.

You can see a historic tram with a stop sign in a museum. The tram is beige with blue accents. 104A6937.JPG

Museum, city tours and events

At the Chemnitz Tram Museum, you can reminisce, marvel at and try out old technology and learn interesting facts about local transport in Chemnitz and Karl-Max-Stadt. The museum is run by the Verein der Straßenbahnfreunde Chemnitz e.V. The members meet regularly to restore the old streetcar classic cars to their former glory. City tours with historic vehicles are also offered on selected days.

In addition, a very unusual wedding event is offered for those interested: The wedding ceremony in a vintage streetcar.
